Several years ago, SERVPRO put together a multi-franchise team of restoration specialists to help an area crippled by flooding. The success of the effort eventually turned into the Commercial Large Loss Team. The idea behind it is to place equipment and personnel to help out area businesses reopen their doors to support their recovering communities. There are several of these teams drawn from SERVPRO offices across the country.

After Hurricane Irma, SERVPRO activated one of these teams and sent it to Naples, Florida with David Mason as the team manager. David is a restoration team manager in the SERVPRO of Marquette Park / West Lawn / Ford City office and was added to the Commercial Large Loss Team program a couple of years ago.

His task over the last month was to get the LaPlaya Beach Resort back up and running. Getting the doors reopened serves two purposes; it provides a local place for residents to live while they rebuild their homes and businesses and brings in needed tourism dollars to rebuild their economy.

After almost four weeks, David and his team have completed most of the work. Augmented by over 180 temporary employees, they have pumped out all standing water and lowered the interior humidity back to normal levels. The team removed and disposed of damaged furniture and structural property and have installed new wall framing and hung new drywall in almost every room. After so much water went through the hotel, his team also checked for mold growth and sprayed anti-bacterial agents where needed.

What they are doing now is installing the last of the new fixtures in the guest rooms and new appliances in the kitchen and laundry areas. David is confident in another week they can meet the SERVPRO goal of making the LaPlaya look “Like it never even happened.”
