Flooding In Your Chicago Condo

Flood in a Chicago Condo Needs Expedited Restoration Services
When you live in a condo, what affects your neighbors sometimes affects you, and this includes water damage. Because the basic design of condos has them constructed on top of each other, a leak in a roof quickly becomes a ceiling issue for the neighbor below.
Storm damage peeled up a portion of a roof in a vacant condo above, and the occupied residence below caused a flood in a Chicago condo ceiling that saturated the living room and carpet.
Water Extraction Above and Below
SERVPRO techs needed access to the vacant unit above to clean up the floor and also tarp the roof until the required repairs occurred. The leak had been ongoing for a time, and the techs removed the flooring around the water loss area to open up the floor joists for drying. This action halted any further water from entering the client unit below. The techs used weighted extractor heads to push the water out of the carpet and padding. They also raised the cushions on the sofa for water extraction and drying. The cushions took on the brunt of the moisture and very little seeped into the frame.
Specialized Drying of Carpet and Furnishings
The techs set up air movers in the unit above with drying mats to force air into the opened area within the floor and dry it. The sagging ceiling below required removal. SERVPRO techs used a technique known as floating to ensure complete drying of the carpet. This tactic involves loosening one edge and forcing the warm, dry air from air movers under the carpet above the padding.
Final Restoration Services
When the condo is clean and dry, the techs give the property owner the suggested repairs that need to happen to bring the residence to a preloss condition. This overview includes the replacement of the damage to the ceiling. The techs compiled a separate report for the loss in the upstairs unit, including the repairs to the roof, ceiling, and flooring to make the restoration complete.
SERVPRO of Marquette Park / West Lawn / Ford City at (773) 337-3993 understands that storm damage needs fast action and is available to local condo owners 24/7 to make the loss “Like it never even happened.”
