Water Removal in Your Chicago Kitchen

A water spill in your kitchen not only impacts your routine, but it also can cause damage to your flooring or kitchen cabinets if you do not take the right precautions quickly and effectively to remove the water before any secondary damage occurs like soaked and destroyed drywall or dangerous mold infestations.

Water removal in your Chicago kitchen should be looked at as an investment into keeping your home in tip-top shape and mitigating additional damage. Sometimes damage occurs in areas of weakness such as cracked tile, loose floorboard, or cracks in the cupboard. This is an opportunity to fix these things as you repair the damage.

One of the critical components to take care of your home after water damage is to make sure the impacted areas are dried to preloss moisture content levels. SERVPRO restoration specialists extract any excess water and then use air moving equipment and dehumidifiers. They use air movers to enhance evaporation by directing the airflow at the surface level. This is because the air right above the wet floors is heavy and saturated with cool moisture, known as a boundary layer. The purpose of the surface level air movers is to direct the warm, dry air from the dehumidifiers over the boundary layer to dissipate the moisture and humidity.

Centrifugal air movers have an impeller, a moving component that has a shaft with blades positioned around it. These high-velocity air movers produce a higher static pressure in air volume compared to axial air movers, which blow larger volumes of air. They deliver lower amounts of pressure at a higher volume. Axial air movers use less amperage than centrifugal air movers and are a good option if there is limited electricity within the home.

Dehumidifying equipment works in conjunction with the air movers to dry impacted surfaces. Dehumidifiers take water vapor from the air. It reduces the humidity ratio in the air, allowing the rate of evaporation to increase until the home and all of the contents are dry. As it pulls moist, humid air, it circulates dry, warm air back out into the room, facilitating drying.
